Osteoporotic Bone showed Enhanced Fracture Healing Response with Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound

چکیده
Introduction: Most fractures in elderly are fragility fractures occurring in osteoporotic bones. Delayed in treatment may cause morbidity and mortality with many complications and social burdens. Our previous clinical study had shown that the use of low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) could provide a beneficial effect on complex fracture. This promising efficacy was further consolidated through in vitro findings in which LIPUS stimulated the osteogenic activity of periosteal cell. With a poorer repair potential in osteoporotic bone fracture, a similar beneficial effect of LIPUS is, therefore, expected. In this study, the effects of LIPUS on fracture healings, and most importantly on the osteoporotic condition, were investigated.

THE BEST DURATION OF LOW INTENSITY PULSED ULTRASOUND FOR ACCELERATING FRACTURED-RADIAL BONE REPAIR
We have already shown that low intensity pulsed ultrasonic treatment increases rabbit radial fracture healing. The present experiment was undertaken to find out the best duration for treatment. A complete transverse fracture was made in the right radial bones of21 adult male rabbits by a Stanley knife. The animals were divided into 4 groups: group 1, control groups 2, 3, and 4, experimental...
متن کاملLOW INTENSITY PULSED ULTRASOUND TREATMENT INCREASES RABBIT RADIAL FRACTURE HEALING
In order to study the effect of ultrasound (US) on bone healing, a complete transverse fracture was made in the right radius of adult male rabbits by a cutter. 52 rabbits were used: group I. control (n= 17): group 2. test (n:=: 15): group 3, intact (n= I) and group 4 (n= 12) who were examined only for evaluation of the cutter effects in detail. 7 animals were operated with a Gigli saw. The ...
متن کاملThe role of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound on bone and soft tissue healing
Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) is a widely used therapy method for bone and soft tissue injury patients. However, the exact mechanism is not very clear until now. In this review, we summarized the possible mechanisms of LIPUS therapy on bone-tendon junction (BTJ), stem cells, muscle injury, wounds, bone healing, osteoporotic fracture, and osteoarthritis. Once the underlying mechanism o...
متن کاملLow Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound Enhanced Mesenchymal Stem Cell Recruitment through Stromal Derived Factor-1 Signaling in Fracture Healing
Low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) has been proven effective in promoting fracture healing but the underlying mechanisms are not fully depicted. We examined the effect of LIPUS on the recruitment of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and the pivotal role of stromal cell-derived factor-1/C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (SDF-1/CXCR4) pathway in response to LIPUS stimulation, which are essential f...
متن کاملLow intensity pulsed ultrasound accelerates delayed healing process by reducing the time required for the completion of endochondral ossification in the aged mouse femur fracture model.
The aim of this study is to clarify the effect of low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) on shortening of the fracture healing period and endochondral ossification during the fracture healing process. We first established a model of aging-related delayed union fractures consisting of aged mouse (C57BL/6J; 40 weeks old) with closed femur fractures. We compared the healing process of 40-week-old...
